About Us!

Who We Are: MediKids was founded by University of Kentucky students Julia King and Jasmine Ngo in the fall of 2023, with the aim to change the lives of children in Lexington. Beginning with just 20 members, MediKids has grown to over 250 dedicated and passionate students. Leading a team of officers and almost a dozen subcommittees, Jasmine and Julia have worked hard to expand the reach of MediKids in the community.

What We Do: MediKids began by taking monthly visits to local elementary schools and hosting fun and interactive lessons on health and wellness. From there, we have expanded to not only many other schools, but to host a variety of other events including volunteering at the KY Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and the UK Salvation Army Clinic, which provides free healthcare to kids whose families are homeless and uninsured.

Highlights:

  • Offer monthly health and wellness workshops at 3+ elementary and high schools in Lexington, reaching 100+ students in the community

  • Donated upwards of 40 hand-made fleece blankets to the Kentucky Children's Hospital and Salvation Army

  • Made and distributed holiday cards to elementary aged children with severe learning disabilities

  • Cook and serve homemade meals each month to patients and families at the Ronald McDonald House

  • Twice a month volunteering with the children at the Salvation Army Clinic

  • Via a campus-wide clothing drive, donated over 180 lbs of gently used winter clothing to families and children at the Lexington Refuge Mission and much more!
